How To Login To Twitter When It Says: “An error occurred when signing in. Please try again later.”

It’s always frustrating when you’re trying to do something on your phone and instead you run into trouble. Follow the steps below in order if you are trying to login to the Twitter app and you’re getting the error message “An error occurred when signing in. Please try again later.”

Fix #1: Login using your email instead of your username

Instead of using your username to login instead put in your email. Then put in your password like usual. If this doesn’t work then move onto Fix #2.

Fix #2: Uninstall and then Reinstall the App

  1. Uninstall the App completely.
  2. Then reinstall the App.

Fix #3: Make sure that your Time and Timezone settings are correct

If Using Android:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to Date and Time
  3. Make sure that your phone has the correct time.
  4. And make sure that your phone is in the correct time zone. If it isn’t then correct it.

Fix #4: Login using the Web Browser

Sometimes the Twitter system may be asking you to change your password of something and the Twitter app is confused.

  1. Open your phone’s web browser.
  2. Navigate to www.twitter.com
  3. Login
  4. If you’re prompted to change your password then do it.
  5. Then close the web browser and try to login using the Twitter app again

  1. I recently discovered a new way to figure out a recent Twitter error in logging into the Twitter app. If you seen the “error login” box after trying to login, go into your iPhone settings and scroll all the way down until you see the Twitter bar. Click on it and make sure “Cellular Data” is switch on and activated.

  2. Thanks Lizzie! That worked! I tried all other fixes but nothing was working for me.

  3. Lizzie you’re unbelievable. usually apps tell you that your data is off! thank you

  4. Thanks Lizzie, worked like a charm !

  6. Hey guys,

I tried everything listed above but was still getting the same error message logging on to Twitter after upgrading my iPhone. Finally worked so thought I would share what worked for me in case it helps anyone else. (1) Like someone else pointed out, make sure your cellular data is ON for Twitter and (2) Make sure you’re logging on over cellular data and not on WiFi.

    Hope this helps!

  7. I dont have installed app and I dont have smartphone, but I have this error on my windows also. I tryed to use different browsers no change. I still have this error. Im new to twitter. I loged in ones about 5 month ago and did not do comments on enithing. Now I just cannot log in at all. I think Twitter should fire all their developers, because they are total idiots. I will not use twiter again ever. Hope this helps.

  8. I don’t use twitter often but been trying to be more active on it and I’m always getting this error! So frustrating! Googled and did everything to try & fix this and its still giving me a hard time to log in to my personal account.

I also had a charity account but it says I’m suspended. Did everything i could to find out why and its been a few months now and still have no idea with no response on why that account was suspended. Twitter is a headache and a half.

  9. after 2 years of being off twitter (BECAUSE OF THIS VERY ISSUE) thank you LIZZIE

  10. Hi, I was going to get a smartphone for Christmas. I have a Apple iPad currently. Twitter still kept giving me the error notice multiple time. I don’t have cellular data because iPads don’t have a phone activation card. Do you think Twitter will let me sign up with the smartphone?
