How to fix the shockwave crashed error on a Chromebook

If you’re getting an error message telling you that shockwave has crashed or “Chromebook cannot load Shockwave Flash” it’s not actually because of shockwave. Here is how to fix it in under a minute.

The real culprit here is Adobe Flash. To fix Flash and get rid of the shockwave error you need to reset your adobe flash license files. Fortunately this is real easy on a chromebook. Follow the following steps:

  1. Click On Menu (the button with three horizontal lines in the top right corner of your browser)
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Scroll down to Show Advanced Settings and click on that
  4. Under Privacy click on Clear Browsing Data
  5. Then Click on Adobe Flash Player Settings
  6. Click on the Protected Content Playback Tab
  7. And then click on Reset License Files

And that should do it!

  1. im always getting shockwave flash especially on games,i went into clear browsing data but i dont see no adobe flash settings help please

  2. They have taken the Adobe Flash Player Settings off of the Clear Browsing Data window, now what? I have been able to reset and change the amount of memory for certain sites on flash from that window, now it’s gone, very frustrating. Chromebook installed an update about a week ago so that must be when it changed. I’ll figure out how to do it but it will take some time, I’ll post more here when/if I know more.

  3. Sorry, that doesn’t help at all as the Settings Manager itself requires flash to work.
When loading the page, Flash crashes and I’m unable to make any changes at all.
Anybody else experiencing the same issue?

  4. i have a 6 month acer chromebook. when i first got it , shockwave kept crashing. i found a link where it was actually fixed but i must have gotten a new version of chrome and now i am back to the same old problem. i cannot find the fix again. this whole thing is because i have two versions of flash running but i cannot see them. there are 100s of “fixes” for this on the web, and most of them are just useless garbage.

can anyone help with an actual fix. i have mailed google with no response. thanks in advance

  5. I don’t find Adobe Flash Player Settings. When i click on Clear Browsing Data, it show only list with witch elements i would remove. Please, help me
