How To Fix: Chromebook Automatically Clicking By Itself

If you have a chromebook that seems to be clicking on links and buttons by itself without waiting for you to actually press down on the touchpad then here is your simple solution:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click on Advanced Settings
  3. Scroll down to the Accessibility section
  4. Make sure that the box next to “Automatically click when the mouse pointer stops” is Unchecked

  1. I followed your advice (it was not checked in the first place), but behaves like it is clicked. Anything else to try?

  2. The setting does NOT end the auto-clicking, and the fact that it is unstable, sometimes fast repeating and sometimes only rarely happening would make me guess the driver needs a fix, as I had similar on Lenovo notebooks operating with MS Windows or Linux…

    Thanks for the help though!

  3. “Automatic click the mouse when it hovers” is not checked. on my Chromebook and yet it STILL happens auto-clicks ALL THE TIME…It really is maddening
    Any help?

  4. I cant use my school chrome book without this happening and it is extremely irritating. I cannot do schoolwork and I am barely able to type this without my chrome book suddenly clicking on something else on the screen and stopping me from typing. I have things to do, but this problem is preventing that

  5. my chromebook is obsessed with where my taskbar is and if i read my entire math book yet. every time i start to type or do any thing, it right clicks on the taskbar and randomly opens something and i am about to break it over my knee

  6. Can this feature be disabled? Like permanently??
I have a school full of chromebooks where this keeps popping up no matter how many times I disable it.

  7. Disable Tap to click. Not much time to clarify because I am using browserling to access it bc this is blocked on school chromebook

  8. My comment is this is ridiculous!!!!!!! I have gone from one page to another and am not getting an answer, not an answer that works, anyway! I am starting to be sorry I bought a Chromebook!
