What notebook do I need to run AutoCAD?

You’ll want to look at something with a dedicated graphics card rather then an integrated chip and you want to go for 2GB of RAM with a Dual-Core processor. I now refer you to a similar question posed by another enlightened reader of this site. You can find it here. Ignore the stuff about the Mac.

The basic points are:

  • Dual Core Processor
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 160GB Hard Drive (at least)
  • 15.4” or bigger screen
  • Firewire and USB ports

  1. Thanks for answer! Also I’d like to know if it would be enough for me to get a laptop, because I’ll have to run Revit as well.

  2. Well, I’m looking at Dell Inspiron. And I didn’t make my decision on screen size: 15” or 17”. Also I looked at Lenovo but they are slightly expensive – like 50-100$ more. What would be your suggestion – pay more and get Lenovo or stick with Dell?

  3. Well the Lenovo line is known to be more reliable but Dell laptops are pretty good as well. I’d say stick with the Dells. They’re great laptops and you save some money.

  4. Thank You! Sorry for bothering you so much, I just want to make right decision before spending money. Do you think I’ll need a cooler for my laptop? (Future Shop has it.) And what accessories you’ll suggest to keep it in good shape, because I’ll move it around a lot.

  5. That’s great! Than you’ll have much more time for yourself (just kidding). Go for it! It will give a chance to post their opinions as well. Hey, I am NOT saying that you are bad – I’m happy with your answers and I have more questions. But on the forum you’ll have a lot of discussions going on – and I think – it’s good.

  6. Hey, Thanks a lot
Your post answered my doubts about buying the notebook. Now I know what to search for.
