Windows Vista is completely compatible with a network using Windows XP computers. Now you didn’t specify what type of network and what your using it for. Sharing the internet across the network is no problem both XP and Vista handle routers the same way.
For File and Print Sharing things are a little bit different (mostly interface tweaks and small functionality changes) but nothing overly large that should present you with a problem.
